OUR STORY

I bought a large dragon pot from a local garden centre about 20 years ago. Having planted an Acer in it and standing it next to a water feature in my garden, I enjoyed admiring it for many years. Unfortunately the acer became pot bound, and when I tried to remove it, my beloved pot broke in half... my fault!

I was desperate to replace it but couldn't find a like-for-like anywhere. At the time, my daughter was travelling around Asia and saw these types of pot in Thailand. Having done a lot of research, I found a manufacturer who was willing to produce my specific design and ship them to the UK. I now have a replacement pot as well as extras to sell.

ABOUT THE POTS

Thailands Ratchaburi Province is situated Southwest of Bangkok and sits along the basin of the Mae Klong river. This province is well known as Thailand's hub for ceramic wares, particularly meticulously manufactured and designed water jars.

The highest value example of those water jars is the Ratchaburi ong mangkon, or dragon-designed water jar, which has Chinese roots from where it was imported in earlier times.

Ratchaburi Dragon Jars were given Geographical Indication Certification in 2020 which guarantees a products characteristics, authenticity, quality and traditional craftsmanship. It is also used to indicate a product as originating in a specific geographical location, so these dragon jars can only be produced to a set quality in one certain area; that being Ratchaburi, Thailand.

As they are originally designed to hold water, they are fired at a high temperature, making them non-porous and frost proof.

We have slightly changed the design from the original to include drainage holes in the bottom, and given them a flat rim instead of a wavy rim to provide a more contemporary look.
